Abstract

Three main purposes of the present research study were to study the stress in the learning age, problems from the students’ stress at Ban Samliam Municipal School, and ways of the stress solution through the Buddhist activities. This study was a qualitative research and participant observation of all persons who were associated with students at Ban Samliam Municipal School, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province.

                        A result of this research study was found that a meaning of the stress came from many factors such as students’ health, relation among members in a family, personality, teaning-and-learning activities, and social and working problems. The stress problems made directly a serious person to lose both physical and mental health. It also affected on his companies. Ways to protect or release the intensity of the stress problem were to look around but not to look only one side because all things changed under the universal rules of Three Characteristics. Four ways to assess reaction of the stress were reporting to oneself, orthographic drawing, observation of behaviour, and assessment of physical changes.

                        Problems of the students’ stress at Ban Samliam Municipal School, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province had great effect on their health such as exhaustion, headache, hypertension, and coronary thrombosis. Moreover, seriousness caused many problems in mental health such as resentment, anger, unlike, and pungency. Wrong thoughts about economics and societies were also a main factor to cause the seriousness. For example, it wanted to pay more in the healthy care that made a person serious. This made a person to spend more times in working, studying, and paying more money. It also was a way to bring about crimes. For example, when a person was serious, he was out of control and destroyed the other people. If there was the great stress, he might commit to suicide. Thus, when a person was serious, he had to be cured in the right way.

                Ways of the stress solution through the Buddhist activities was that the Ban Samliam Municipal School had cooperation with Sangha and the students’ guardians. Here, all students who got stress came to participate in all Buddhist activities like meditation at the Buddhist meditation centres. These activities were useful to make students release the intensity of seriousness because the mental development helped greatly those students to control themselves and think in positive ways such as creation, positive thinking of all matters, and spreading the loving kindness towards all human beings—friends, parents, teachers, benefactors, and enemies. The consideration of Three Characteristics was to think of changes and instabilities. The respect to the Triple Gem was actually to make mind calm by a process of mental purification. The use of four sublime states of mind in the daily life and to participate in the Buddha-butta Camp was useful to make students love wholesomeness and hate unwholesomeness. It also helped students to be responsible for their lives and societies as well as the gratitude. To give alms to the monks helped students how to give. To walk with lighted candles around the Buddhist temple made students get concentration and feel to be close to the Triple Gem. To give candles in the Buddhist retreat brought about the harmony among students. All activities on the Father’s Day and the Mother’s Day were useful to make students, teachers and parents close associated with each other. All activities to the protection students from drugs were useful to take them out of drugs and destruction. If students were trained with practicing thanquility and insight meditation continuously. They were freefrom the stress because it was difficult to develop mind. If there was that well-trained mind a person would get the best thing in this world. For example there was no anger and geriousness although a person had been attacked by there before.
