Abstract

The main purposes of this thesis were to study the principles of Buddhist  poems teaching, methods of using the Buddhist poem doctrines to instruct the Yakhao School pupils in morality and ethics, and the results of instructing the Yakhao School pupils in morality and ethics by means of the Buddhist poem teachings.

It was found that there were many authors of the Buddhist poem teachings written in each era. All of them embraced those Buddhist poem teachings as a way to remind a reader of moral behavior in the daily life. As a result, the reader behaved virtuously and morally according to the Buddha’s teachings. Here, a researcher paid great attention to take many aspects of such a religious work into a recent study: educational ethics, morality, gratitude, faithfulness, economization, etc. that were divided into thirteen groups.

A way to bring the Buddhist poems teachings into the ethical cultivation for the Yakhao School  pupils was generally done in the social, religious, traditional content group according to a lesson plan, the morality room, classroom by infiltrating those Buddhist prinples into many subjects, flagstaff activity, weekend activity, and school activities on special days with the Dharma principle memorizing contest. These activities made students, their parents and the others interested in following and reciting the Buddhist poem teachings.

About the results of the Buddhist moral and ethical cultivation at the Yakhao School, it was found that that the pupils had good opportunity to study the Buddhist doctrines, applied to their lives. As a result, they behaved more virtuously and morally in many aspects: educational ethics, morality, gratitude, faithfulness, economization, etc. By means of examining the questionnaire and interview, guardians, teachers, and leaders of communities are satisfied with this moral behaviour. Hence, it could be said that to teach the pupils with the Buddhist poems teachings assured the researcher greatly to spread such a Buddhist poem teaching towards the communities. However, this research focused on moral value that was represented through ethical poems.
