Abstract

The dissertation "The Development of Mindfulness For Peace " has three objectives: (1) to study the concepts of mindfulness that appear in Theravada Buddhism (2) to study the concepts and methods of building peace (3) to find out the effective solution to develop mindfulness for peace. This is a qualitative research done by using documentary research methods and interviews.

The results showed mindfulness that appeared in Theravada Buddhism focused on memorization. The mindfulness that appears in the West is conscious about self observation, alertness, and interest in the present moment. Mindfulness is responsible for monitoring the 4 principles of consciousness development. People who develop good mindfulness can help to eliminate conflict. The conflict was caused by greed, hatred, delusion, and also the passion, conceit and speculation. Therefore, the idea to build peace is to handle these defilements. Mindfulness is raised by the development of it through the conscious development. There must be born from learning, training, and developing. People will be peaceful at the individual level then the state of peace will occur. Researcher finds out the development of mindfulness for resulting directly in the development of mindfulness to create peace in name of “SANTI Model”, which is derived from the study of Dhamma and from the interview. The development of mindfulness will result in self-development and benefits for those around them. The effective for development will result in 3 aspects as 1) Behavior 2) Mind 3) Insight
