Educational Management Following Buddhist Psychology in Buddhist Oriented School

Abstract

There were three objectives of this dissertation which were 1) to synthesize the Buddhist principles and psychology in the management of Buddhist schools;      2) to analyze the good practice of the Buddhist education in Buddhist oriented school; and 3) to propose the educational management model according to Buddhist psychology in Buddhist oriented school. Research methodology was a qualitative research using in-depth interview with 13 key informants who were teachers and principals from eight Buddhist oriented schools. Purposive sampling was used for the selection. The validation of developed model was assessed by seven experts. Content analysis and analytic induction were used for data analysis. 

             Results of the research were as follows:

             1. Synthesized results of Buddhist principles and psychology in educational management at Buddhist oriented school indicated that factors of motivation for need of self-development consisted of 1) mental development, 2) physical development, 3) emotional development, 4) intellectual development, 5) social development, 6) knowledge development, and 7) self-development to the needs of the labor market.  For supporting factors, there were policy and educational management, relationship with the community, education promotion, the budget allocation to education, materials - equipment learning, and learning activities, curriculum and instructional process, and measurement and evaluation.

             2. Analyzed results of the good practice of the Buddhist education in Buddhist oriented school consisted of the physical aspects of the Buddha image, good environment, clean, calm and safety. The basic activities of the way of life consisted of keeping the 5 precepts with simple smile and beautiful deeds.  Learning the way of life by integrating the principles of Buddhism into the teaching and learning was also applied. The atmosphere and interaction were taught in a pleasant way and friendly.  Management was encouraged parents and community for the participation with continuous and systematic.

             3. The model of educational management in Buddhist Psychology in Buddhist oriented schools was the teaching and learning based on the principles of Buddhism under the participation of parents and community with friendly. There were three parts consisted of the house, the temple and the school integrating the threefold training process into the children to be good, excellent and happy. The teaching and instruction should be full of friendly between house, temple and school with the management process of man, budget, material and systematic management (M). For learning (L) and instruction, five steps of teaching methods were applied, and there were introduction, activities, analysis and discussion, conclusion, and assessment. For supporting factors of the learning behavior assessment, it consisted of clean and appropriate classroom for learning environment including independent learning and collaborative learning activity with code of conduct. MLS Model for Buddhist Psychology of educational management in Buddhist oriented school was proposed.
