Effectiveness of Educational Development of Phrapariyattidhamma School Pali Section at the Sangha Administration Region 15

Abstract

Objectives of research  were to: 1.  study general condition of effectiveness of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma School, Pali Section, at the Sangha Administration,Region 15, 2. study the achievement  factors to effectiveness of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma school, Pali Section, at the Sangha Administration, Region 15 and 3. propose the development model of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma School, Pali section, at the Sangha Administration, Region 15.

Methodology was the mixed methods: The qualitative research collected data from 18 key informants by in-depth-interview and from 11 participants in focus group discussion and analyzed data by descriptive interpretation. The quantitative research collected data from 293 samples who were Sanga Administrators, school masters and Pali teachers monks and analyzed data with  frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, S.D. and tested the Pearson’s correlation coefficient.

Findings of this research were as follows:

1. The general condition; 1) The facility aspect; The Sangha Administration, Region 15 were more ready for building construction due to the faith and support from Provincial and District Sangha administrators, Sangha Administrators, and the faithful people helped donate, especially Phrapromweti, Regional Sangha Governor ,Region 15 who has the long vision and supports the educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma, Pali Section, school at the Sangha Administration, Region 15 by setting up the Sahapali school, Co-ed Pali School, for every province in the Region naming” Co-Education Pali Study School”   2) The lecturers aspect ; Regional Sangha Governor monk of Region 15   presented the policy to each  Phrapariyattidhamma, Pali Secton school to have enough Pali teachers in appropriate proportion to students that made the learning and teaching Pali more effective, 3). The curriculum aspect; teaching and Learning curriculum of Phrapariyattidhamma school, Pali Section,used the old curriculum for very long time around the country , old and complicated language, difficult to  understand. The content focused on memory and translation rather than understanding to maintain the originality. However, for  Phrapariyattidhamma school, Pali section, in the Sangha administration, Region15, developed  special curriculum such as mobile Pali grammar book etc., 4) The Student aspect;  Regional Sangha Governor set up the policy for novices and monks ordination in Buddhism continuously or before Buddhist Lent day in order to have resource persons to study at Phrapariyattidhamma school, Pali section, for the purpose of Buddhism personnel production, 5) The technology aspect; media were available but lacking personnel to manage them.

 2.The effectiveness of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma School, Pali section, in the Sangha  Administration, Region 15 revealed that Pearson’s correlations coefficient (r)  had the value at 0.895 indicating that the POSDC principle was the factor affecting the effectiveness of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma School, Pali section, in the Sangha Administration, Region 15 at high level and correlations coefficient (r)  with  the value at 0.900 indicated that the factors that  had impact was the Dhamma principle named as Ittibahtdhamma IV that affected the effectiveness of educational development of Phrapariyattidhamma school, Pali section, at the Sangha Administration, Region 15  at high levels.

3. development guidelines are in five aspects: 1) Each district in region 15 set up their own learning and teaching institutes and Provincial and District Sangha administrators, Sangha Administrators in each district support the schools with proper budget.  2) The things should be improved, There should regular meeting to set  teaching and learning plans and each class must have the examination and evaluation in every week.  3) there should be motivation and attraction so that students are interested in studying Pali. There should set up libraries of specially Tipitaka equipped with computers for further search, 4) another thing to be improved, if possible, Ministry of Education recognizes and accredits  Phrapariyattidhamma, Pali studies and 5) there should be distance teaching and online learning systems for Pali language study so that those who are interested in, either monks, novices or lay people, both males and females can study from the distance learning system.
