Abstract

                      This research paper aims at studying the insight meditation teaching in Theravada Buddhist scriptures, and analyzing the method of insight meditation practice teaching of Phramaha Pan Ānando Mahabuddhawongsapalueng Temple, Vientiane, Laos PDR.  by collecting the research data from Theravada Buddhist texts; and related documents and research work, then gathered, summarized, arranged and written in descriptive style and finally verified by experts. From the study, it found that;

                 The insight meditation teaching found in Theravada Buddhist scriptures refers to the teaching of practical method based on four foundations of mindfulness in general

. The Buddha had used the method of insight meditation teaching focusing on miracle of teaching including 4 types of insight teaching; explanation, dialogue, question and answer, and punishment and rewards. In addition, he had the only supreme knowledge of Buddha which can tell the character of mankind and beings therefore he can deliver his teaching successfully according to the behavior and habits of audiences. Furthermore, he used various tactics to teach people to have clear understanding of the truth taught, and attaining noble path, fruits and Nibbana in the end.

`           The way of insight meditation teaching of Phramaha Pan Ãnando, Vientiane Laos PDR followed the same method based on four foundations of mindfulness in general and based on Visuddhimagga text. He taught insight starting from being mindful contemplating on present name and forms by emphasizing on moving postures into name and forms as impermanence, suffering and non-self. The practitioner must do meditation in private meditation cell rather than in main hall. Mental examining to resolve various wrong doing is conducted intermittently depending on each person’s aptitude and faculties aiming at catching on the true state of name and forms as they are, abandoning all attachments and leading to noble path and fruits. This approach has been passed down from generations to generations until present. Nowadays Lao Buddhists have turned to learn and follow insight meditation more and more and they form organization to expand the national and international reach.
