Abstract
The objectives of this research were 1) to study the concepts of cosmology appeared in Buddhist scripture, 2) to study the concepts of Buddhist cosmology according to Lanna belief and 3) to study the influence of Buddhist cosmology towards to make a plan the monastery in Lanna. This research was a qualitative research which studied from documents, Tipitaka and Lanna scripture such as Cakavalti-pane and Tiphumpmikatha and in-depth interview the population were 8 people who were expert in Lanna Buddhism.
The results of this research were found that;
1. The concept of cosmology appeared in Buddhist scripture found that the cosmology came from the Suttra in Buddhist scripture such as Akganya Suttra, Cakkavatti Suttra, and Suriya Suttra.
2. The concepts of Buddhist cosmology according of Lanna belief found that the cosmological concept came from the power of the King that there were monastery building, house building, and city building according to cosmological belief. The main text of this concept was the belief that had made the balance between the world and cosmology. It belief that, if the small cosmology means the world was equilibrium with big cosmology, It will be to well-being and peace in the world.
3. The influence of Buddhist cosmology towards make a plan in Lanna monastery found that the Buddhist cosmology concept had played influence role to make a plan in Lanna monastery namely, the pagoda establishing was constructed on the center of monastery. The Vihara establishing had to set in the east of the pagoda because which got the influence from Buddhist cosmology. Therefore, the establishing of pagoda and Vihara will be constructed according to the Buddhist cosmology concept.
