Abstract

Abstract

The Thesis on “The Comparative Study of the Concept of Ideal Democracy and the Political Idea of Thai Democracy” was divided by the researcher into 3 points including: 1. to study the concept of the ideal democracy 2. To study the concept of  Thai democracy, and 3. To study, analyze, and compare the concept of ideal democracy and the political idea of Thai democracy. According to the research, it was found that:-

The ideal democracy means the free democratic society; that is, the society which accepts differences and conflicts, and which settles argument on peaceful basis, and which respects equality, freedom, and brotherhood. Democratic system consists of 1. Direct democracy, 2. Indirect democracy through representatives, and 3. Democracy where the people participate in the management by themselves.

Thai Democracy means the democracy govern with King as the Head of State using his power through parliament, cabinet, and court of justice, with the Constitution as the supreme law, and with the basic principle of democracy that protects human dignity, right, freedom, and equality of people, and the power owned by people. In practice, people use these powers through representatives.

The ideal democracy and the Thai democracy are similar in that it is the democracy with the basic principle in providing right, freedom, and equality to the people, people have power to vote for representatives. There is a difference in that Thai society is governed by having the King as the Head of State but under the Constitution. Also, the difference is that the economy is not industrial but agricultural society instead. Besides, the people in the society have tradition and culture to be used together with the written law.
