A Study Of The Attitude Towards The Dhamma Studies Teaching By The Buddhist Monks At Chumchonwatbanrakad School, Bangbho District, Samutprakan Province

Abstract

Abstract

            The objective of this research is to study the attitude towards the Monk’s teaching the religious education in Chumchonwatbanrakad School, Bangbho District, Samutprakan Province and to study the problems, the obstacle and any suggestion regarding Monk’s teaching the religious education in Chumchonwatbanrakad School, Bangbho District, Samutprakan Province.

The sample groups are primary school students of Prathom 4-6 and consisting of 120 persons.  Boy students are of 62 persons shared 51.67 % and girl students are of 58 persons of 48.33 % Prathom 4 students are the majority and are of 36.67 % whereas those of Prathom 5 and Prathom 6 are of equally 31.67 %. The questionnaire is the relevant instrument created by the researcher according to the Confidence Coefficient Figure of 0.88 and the research has been made by statistical analysis of the basis data i.e. percentage, averaging, and the standard deviation.  In addition, the statistics to be used for studying the objective of this research are t-dependence and Analysis of Covariance (ANOVA). 

From the result of the research, it is found that

1) The course content is quite interesting however the details inside mostly are too difficult to understand.  2) The monk teachers are well educated, but they have no skills in explaining the contents and failed to give the example to enable one to understand.  3) Monks held up the teaching workshops and gave the demonstration as how to bow down when paying the homage and the consecration of things to monks, but there was neither exhibition on Buddhist important days nor outing exhibition to show the relevant contents.  4) They chose the teaching media according to the content of the course but the students mainly did not learn it to the actual condition of the media.  5) Regarding the environment, the monks nicely performed themselves as good idols for the students, however they have no skills in creating atmosphere in classroom to be conducive to learning Buddhism.  6) Regarding the assessment and the evaluation, the monks performed the test by focusing on logically understanding, but they did not evaluate it every time after the class.

According to the study of attitude for students, the girls students could gain higher average scores than the boys especially their attitudes toward the contents of learning course, there was significant statistical difference at the level of 0.05,  whereas their attitude to other aspects, researcher found the average at a similar level and there was no significantly statistical difference at the level of 0.05, by the way, according to the attitude of the students in Prathom 4 – 6 in regard to holding up Teaching Workshop, Prathom 4 students have higher attitude than those of Prathom 6 with significant statistical difference at the level of 0.05, but in case of the attitude toward teaching the religious education in other aspects then there is no significant statistical difference at the level of 0.05

From the result of studying the attitude towards Monk’s teaching religious education in Chumchonwatbanrakad School, Bangbho District, Samutprakan Province, it is found that the course content was difficult to understand. The monks have no teaching skills, and do not have illustrative explanation by giving example, no outing learning abiding to the contents, studying accessories and media were not up to date, the classroom atmosphere is not conducive to learn Buddhist Education and the monks have not made evaluation of the class.
