A Model of Duty Potentiality Development for Scout voluntary soldiers in The Three Southern Border Provinces in Line with The Principle of Buddhadhamma

Abstract

 The objective of this research were to; 1) study problems and obstacles of duty

performance of Scout voluntary soldiers in the three Southern border provinces, 2) analyze
the Dhamma and theories for duty potentiality development of scout voluntary soldiers in
the three southern border provinces and 3) propose the most appropriate model for duty
potentiality development of the scout voluntary soldier unit in the three southern border
provinces
The methodology was the mixed method between the quantitative and
qualitative research. The quantitative research collected data from 400 samples with
questionnaires and analyzed data by frequency, percentile, mean and standard deviation to
find out the problems in three areas, 1) behaviors, 2) mentality, 3) intelligence to be ready
for training with Bavana 4, including development if 4 areas; 1) physical development 2) Sila,
morality, 3) intelligence to find out the most appropriate model for potentiality
development of scout voluntary soldiers.
The qualitative research collected data from 25 key informants purposefully
selected from experts and from participants in focus group discussion and public hearing for
complete findings. Data were analyzed by descriptive interpretation.
Findings were as follows:
Samples were more males 75.5 percent with the young ages between 26-35, 49.5
percent, Buddhists,single,56.9. In additional finding that samples with Educational levels
were Mathayom 6, 43.8 percent indicating the readiness physically, mentally and wisdom to
perform duty in the remote areas and dangerous situations. Overall conclusions were that
Kayapavana, physical development, has the average at 4.06, Silapavana, precept
development had the average of 4.17, Jittapavana, mental development, had the average of
4.06 and Panyapavana, wisdom development, was at 4.08.
1) Problems and obstacles, in general, there was no problems and obstacles.
Only mental problems which had less average of all aspects. In addition, the circumstances
was not appropriate for mental development. The training belonged to the commander to
take a close look and attention.
2) The study of appropriate concept, theories and Buddhadhamma for
potentiality development for scout voluntary soldiers were that Bavana 4 should be the
principal mean to develop the potential of Scout soldier in adverted situation. Besides,
Bavana 4 could be used to deveop the scout soldiers in all aspects, physically, mentally,
wisdom and intelligence. Comanders could be able to detect the strength, weakness of man
power in the unit. The Bavana 4 could be used for direct development based on 3 activities
in human development as training, education and development.
3) The model for the potentiality developmentof scout voluntary soldiers
according Buddhadhamma should be considered case by case basis because people had not
equal physical, mental and wisdom potentials. Besides setting up the standard procedure in
potential development, the aspects of time, support, morale, intelligence of individuals
should be taken into account. The most effective potential training was to train all 4 aspects
in parallel. The Buddhadhamma based potential development was guaranteed that those
soldiers who underwent through the training would come out with virtue, morality, ethics
and prosperity which would be the beneficial to oneself and society with the hope to ease
up the conflict and violence in the society. Society would be charitable, peaceful and
harmonious at the end.
