The Sangha Administration according to Brahmaviharadham of Phradhampariyattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo)

Abstract

                The three objectives of this research are : 1) to study an analysis about the development of Sangha Governnance in many ages. ; 2) to study the comparison the Sangha Administration according to Brahmaviharadham of Phradhampariyattiwetee (Sutep  Phussadhammo) ; and 3) To study the application of Brahmaviharadham for Sangha Administration by qualitative research through the study the data from Tipitaka, many sources of documents and in depth interview from the main data givers such as sixteen Sangha administrators and laymen who work for the Sangha in region 15 for receiving the concept of Brahmaviharadham to use for Sangha Administration more clearly . 

            

                             The findings of this research as following :

 

               1) To develop the Sangha Administration found that : (1) to develop the governance and Sangha Council in the Buddha’s time that used the Administration as father governed the sons consisted of solidarity or samaggidham and gave the equal right and freedom and no castes. But the Buddha counted the ordination years as the seniority level. He was a Sanghas’ leader as a chairman to judge and to set up the scope of Sangha governmance as democratic principle as majority rule that lord Buddha set up the principle in teachings and Disciplines (Dhammavinaya).

             (2) The Sangha Administration after the death of the Buddha, the Sangha Administration started doing the Dhamma review for collecting the teachings and Disciplines (Dhammavinaya) as a group and examined the right teachings and Disciplines (Dhammavinaya) as the Buddha set up and to protect the right teachings and discipline fading away. Because after the Buddha passed away very short period of time and then Sangha started having the different ideas about the right teachings and disciplines and then were separated into many sects.

             (3) The Sangha Administration in Thailand in the age of Sukhothai, Ayutthaya , Thonburi and Ratanakosin still behaved as the form of Sangha governance as mentioned in the teachings and disciplines and Sangha council had the relationship between religion and royal kingdom. The monks used the power of royal kingdom to build the holy teachings and disciplines and the purity of Buddhism while developing countries followed the civilized countries. However, Sangha still were in the frame of right teachings and disciplines.

             (4) The Sangha Administration at the present, Sangha council has the technology development and integrates the Buddha’ s teachings to lead the government along with development and has law, deesis, regulations to support the right teachings and disciplines. So it has the impact on Sangha leaders must have the visions , knowledge , ability, sacrifice , and accept the others’ ideas including good behavior and are accepted from Sangha council and society. They are also honour and justice and without bias and focus on Brahmaviharadham as the most importance for Administration.

 

               2) The Sangha Administration according to Brahmaviharadham of Phradham-

pariyattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo) found that ; (1) Loving-Kindness, Phradhampari-yattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo) administrators the Sangha in region 15 kindly and sacrifice, good mind, far visions , behave well to nation, Buddhism and kings including having the Loving-kindness to Sanghas as his subordinates who work for Sanghas’ activities concretely and efficiently as the sake of  the public and create the harmony in Sangha society.

                       (2) Compassion, Phradhampariyattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo) Administration the Sangha in region 15 with compassion and helps the other and give the opportunity to support for the training. He always advises his subordinates for the ways to work . He also gets in touch with his subordinates and evaluation and never gives up his duty and dose not forget his subordinates. Whenever, Sangha council has the problems, he will suggest and help to solve the problem with compassion.

                       (3) Sympathetic Joy, Phradhampariyattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo)  Administration the Sangha in region 15 with motivation and incentives to his subordinates smartly and he is very glad with his subordinates if they are promoted in their careers. He thinks of his subordinates as cousins so he has always sympathetic joy with everyone.

                       (4) Neutrality, Phradhampariyattiwetee (Sutep Phussadhammo) Admini-

stration the Sangha in region 15  with justice and neutrality as mentioned in Buddha’s teachings and disciplines, Sangha law, rules, regulations, announcement, Agreements of Supreme Sangha Council frankly and without bias and not just power or depends on emotion. He will have the meeting and let them understand with Sangha in the case of Sangha works in every side and always uses the Sanghas’ majority agreement to work.

 

               3) To apply Brahmaviharadham to Thai Sangha Administration at the present time finds out as following : (1) Loving - Kindness, Sangha Administrators in every level have the good  wishes to the Buddhist institution, to personnel of Sangha as the most importance such as to give the policy and planning in Sangha works for every thing. They  have the loving - kindness and good wishes to the subordinates and have the good relationship with them and think of doing the benefit things to Sangha works and Buddhism. Then, it will have the discipline and usefulness to Sangha works on the same direction in the sake of strength of Buddhsim.

                       (2) Compassion, Sangha administrators in every level have the compassion to help the others and develop the subordinates by fulfill them through training. They must advise the subordinates in the right way by sacrificing very much and whenever the subordinates have very big problems and they can not help themselves or have the suffering while they are working so Sangha administrators must have very high compassion by jumping to solve the problem of subordinates very fast. Then, they will feel happy with the Sangha administrators because they protect the subordinates very well. It can make them to have the faith and confidence to the Sangha administrators and they can co-operate in any work of Sangha with sincerity and then can have high efficiency and effectiveness.

                       (3) Sympathetic joy, Sangha administrators in every level have the sympathetic joy and very glad to their subordinates and support to nice works by creating the motivation and incentives and to give the reward to their subordinates when they are successful in his career or getting the promotion for new position. The Sangha administrators will congratulate on their subordinate with happiness and always support them to get the higher position in the nearest future.

                       (4) Neutrality, Sangha administrators in every position have the justice ,fairness along with the teachings of the Buddha as the constitution of Sangha Administration. In case of keeping the right , they must not have the bias and to know , to listen and analyze with the right reason and do not use the power in the wrong way. The Sangha administrators must have the neutrality, neutral mind but still get in touch with their subordinates. However, they will not interfere the affairs by changing the wrong matters to right.
