A Study of Learning Behaviors the Primary School in Nongkeaw Subdistrict, Mueng District, Roi-Et Province

Abstract

                  The main objectives of this study were: 1) to study the curriculum of Dhamma studies (Dhamma-sueksa) and the teaching methods of the Buddhist monks in teaching Dhamma studies in the schools, in the area of Nong-Kaew sub-district, Mueng district, Roi-et province, and 2) to study the students view on Dhamma studies in Nong-Kaew sub-district, Mueng district, Roi-et province. The sample in this study were: 31 teachers, 340 Dhamma studies students, and 10 Buddhist monks who taught Dhamma studies, 381 in total. It concluded with the reliability at 0.90, acquiring sample by Cohen's method, and had the sample at 217. And, the statistics used in this study were: Frequency, Percentage, Means, and Standard Deviation (S.D.).

                 The result of the study found that:

                 1) The curriculum of Dhamma studies (Dhamma-sueksa) and the teaching methods of the Buddhist monks in teaching Dhamma studies in the schools, in the area of Nong-Kaew sub-district, Mueng district, Roi-et province, in overall and in each aspect resulted in most level. While, examining in each aspect found that it resulted in most in 4 aspects categorizing based on Means from higher to lower points as following: learning activities, the character of Buddhist monks who taught the Dhamma studies, content of the curriculum, and the test and evaluation of the study.     

                 2) The result of the study of students’ opinion on Dhamma studies, in the area of Nong-Kaew sub-district, Mueng district, Roi-et province found thus: the content of the curriculum was not fit with the students, and it was somewhat too difficult for the students such as Dhamma terminology, and too many courses for Dhamma studies. The Buddhist monks who taught the Dhamma studies had not well relationship with the officers in school, used improper speech and acted inappropriately. For the learning activities, the learning process didn't go in the same direction with the content of the courses, and teaching material was not enough. Last but not least, for the test and evaluation of the study, it was very necessary to provide the test for testing and reviewing the studies of the students in a proper period. The  final test should not be too difficult and its result should be announced as soon as possible.
