Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

 

          This research titled “Nursing Cares for Patients according to Buddhist Principles”  was carried out with 3 objectives: 1) to study Nursing Cares for Patients according to principles of Nursing science, 2) to study Nursing Care for Patients according to Theravada Buddhist principle 3) to study an application of Nursing Care for Patients according to Buddhist principles in Thai society.

          This study was a documentary research collecting the primary sources from Tipitaka and commentary scriptures as well as second sources documents academic texts and relevant researches and reveal the results of study on a descriptive research.

The results of research found that

1) Nursing Care for Patients according to Nursing Science in the present time established since the age of Miss Florence Nightingale, she was dubbed "The Lady with the Lamp" and systematically improved according to the process of science,  helped and serviced for people, families and communities in encouragement of healthcare, protection, nursing care as well as regenerative medicine applied the principle of science to help people, did not care in gender, age, nationality, religion, status and political belief to live in society happily.

2) Nursing Care (or look after) for Patients according to Buddhist Principles as found in Tipitaka scriptures were the Nursing Cares for bodily and metal Patients divided into 3 kinds:  (A) Nursing Care for Patients by keep vigil over a sick on the body, (B) Nursing Care for patients by Dhamma talking, and (C) Nursing Care for patients by Dhamma talking that the Buddha gave the form of Nursing Care by himself, he made straight for and had not disgusting in Patients, was a fresh face, pleased to help on the body and also gave Nursing Care on mental by teaching Amata-dhamma ( the deathless Dharma) such as 7 Bojjhanga (enlightenment factors), 10 Sanna (contemplations), and 4 Bramavihara (sublime states of mind) etc, to get inside Samadhi (concentration) releasing from bodily and mental painfulness.  

3) An application of Nursing Cares for Patients according to Buddhist Principles in Thai society in the 3 ways, there were apparent model Buddhist monks as follows: Nursing Care on body is Phra Udomprachanat (Phrabatnamphu monastery) and Phrapaisan Visalo (Sukato forest monastery), Nursing Care on Dhamma talking is Buddhadhasa Bikhu (Suanmokkhapalaram monastery) and Phra Bahmagunabhorn P.A. Payutto (Yanavesakawan monastery), which they all are accepted as a good model in the present, should apply in professional performance of oneself effectively to achieve the purpose of service persons in an application for Patients of Thai society in the present and would be causing the love in their career and work more happily. Therefore, one who would apply Nursing Cares for Patients according to Buddhist Principles in Thai society should be well understanding of the Dhamma at least 3 categories, i.e., 4 Bramavihara (sublime states of mind), Tilakkhana (the three characteristics) which would help Nursing Cares for Patients on body and mentality accomplish and achieve holistically.
