Abstract

The research aimed to study the management of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University Shelters and the integration application of the threefold training consisting of morality (Sila), concentration (Samādhi), and wisdom (Paññā) in the management of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya Shelters. It was a qualitative research using descriptive statistics, documentary evidence, observations, in-depth interviews, and group discussion for data analysis.

The findings showed that the Buddhist principles used for the management of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University Shelters concerned the threefold training: morality (Sila), concentration (Samādhi), and wisdom (Paññā).

From in-depth interview analysis, it found that the management of Shelters in disaster situation according to the threefold training started from morality; a physical therapy such as providing rooms, living facilities, drinking water, toilet, and public transportation for the victims. When the physical needs or basic living factors were responded, the activity for behavioral enhancement and social activity could be held. This not only helped promote participation in social organization but also supported therapy and quality of life development for victims during crisis. Then, meditation activity was to be held to start physical therapy and enhancing mental health. This concerned Buddhist ceremony and Buddhist psychology counseling. Finally, cognitive development was emphasized to show attitudes towards wastes and to impart body of knowledge about self-development after disaster and the promotion of professional development for the victims.

The study results showed understandings and application of mentioned Buddhist principles in the management of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University Shelters in an appropriate manner. This not only helped promote impression and satisfaction among victims but also efficiently enhanced mental health and happiness.
