Abstract

ABSTRACT

The main objectives of this thesis are: to study a problematic issue of violence among a youth in Thai society, to study a problem and effect of violence among a youth at Ban  Nongkungnontan  School, Nong Song Hong District, Khonkaen Province, and to study a solution for violence among a youth with the Buddhist principle of the Noble Eightfold Path (atthavgika-magga). However, this thesis is conducted based on qualitative research methodology, documentary research, field work approaches, and critical analysis.

The result of the study found that a youth was considered as very essential resource of the nation, but nowadays a youth tended to behave in improper characteristics such as being aggressive, having a quarrel among friends, inactive in studies, having sex during improper age, drug addiction, and so on. Moreover, some of them became hopeless, nervous, diffident, and fearful. All these were very programmatic issue in current Thai society.

However, in this study found that a problem and an effect of violence of a youth in Ban Nongkungnontan School could be divided into two categories: the first referred to a problem which namely were; being discipline, lack of responsibility, dishonest, impunctuality, inactive in studies, lack of patience, unknowing of pubba (merit) and papa (demerit), being violent. The second was an effect of violence which were; increasing income of a family, losing flame, community lack of peacefulness, and failed in studies.

Nevertheless, the solution of the violence with the Buddhist principle of the Noble Eightfold Path could be done in the following methods: firstly fostering a youth to have right understanding about life thus being born as a human was very difficult and those who had chance to study were the luckiest man. Learning must be placed as primary objective, not playing. Educating them to have right intention by guiding them to think with analytical reflection; while for the right speech was speaking only what was truth. Dedicating in doing community work in a school, being punctual, not copy other works and submit assignment on time was considered as right action in this context. While, being active in studies, participating class activities, being a good child, study hard, being confident, were right effort.
