Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

                      The main objectives of this thesis were 1) to study the role of administrative Savgha in managing the monasteries based on the principle of Good Governance, 2) to study the general problems of the administrative Savgha in managing the monasteries based on the principle of good governance in Chaturapakpiman district, Roi-et province, and 3) to study the processes in managing the monasteries based on the principle of Good Governance of the administrative Savgha in Chaturapakpiman district, Roi-et province. However, this thesis was conducted based on mixed research methodology: qualitative and quantitative. For the quantitative research, this study applied the questionnaire in collecting the data from the population, 224 administrative Savgha and analyzed with instant program in analysis, and had reliability at 0.97. Furthermore, the statistics used in this study were: Percentage, Frequency, and Standard Deviation (S.D.). For the  qualitative research, this study implemented In-Depth Interview and content analysis.

                      The result of the study found that

                      The role of the administrative Savgha in managing the monasteries based on the principle of good governance was very important rules in organizing the mutual relationship, unity, and driving force for the stable development of both monasteries and the community. Moreover, with effective cooperation between monasteries and community, there would be protected shelter for the society from all social crisis and problems. It also enhanced the proper characteristic in administration of the nation where democracy placed as the utmost importance.

                      The general problems and the role of the administrative Savgha in managing the monasteries based on the principle of Good Governance in Chaturapakpiman district, Roi-et province were 1) Rule of Laws, the Savgha was regarded as a public person, he couldn’t do his favor that opposed to the law of the nation and the Buddhist discipline (Vinaya) ; 2) Ethics, as the Dhamma-teacher, he should train himself in proper ethical conducts then taught to the people what they had trained; 3) Transparency, without unity any administration couldn’t find transparency; 4) Participation, the Savgha should have a part with the public service; 5) Accountability, being responsible to the given tasks and tried to complete them in time; 6) Value for Money, in doing any work, the Savgha should consider about the benefits and outcome of the works,  not to engage repeated works, no plan, and invalid procedures.

                      For the processes in managing the monasteries based on the principle of good governance of the administrative Savgha in Chaturapakpiman district, Roi-et province, this study found that in managing the monasteries based on the principle of good governance needed reasonable and unit approaches. This was to attain the total benefit of the managing the monasteries. Moreover, the abbots and the heads of the village should have the understanding regarding managing the monasteries based on the principle of good governance. Because, these two parties had the most important roles in managing the monasteries and that of the community in doing the effective cooperation, especially, in offering educational support to the monastic members for higher education. Furthermore, there should be public and health welfare for the monastic members by set up the funds.
