ABSTRACT
The objectives of this research include is to study the concept of Pacchavekkhavidhi (the contemplation on the four necessities) which affects the living in sufficiency and 2) to determine the factors that affect the living in sufficiency in daily life
The research found that
(1) The application of Buddhist principle for daily living on Pacchavekkhavidhi is the knowledge and understanding about consuming the four necessities for living. It interests those who are seeking alternatives for living in the present era where changes are constant, in order to survive with quality. The concept of Pacchavekkhavidhi according to Buddhism is as follows:
1) The contemplation over clothing.
Lord Buddha taught us the way to contemplate over clothing that every piece of clothing is merely a substance. We wear clothes to protect us from cold.
2) The contemplation over food.
Food is a necessity of lives. Lord Buddha taught us to contemplate over the benefits of food consumption.
3) The contemplation over housing.
Houses are very important. Lord Buddha taught us to contemplate over the benefits of houses. We should follow Lord Buddha’s teaching and frequently reflect until we gradually accept the real benefits.
4) The contemplation over medicine.
Taking medicine is to cure an illness that causes sufferings. We should thoroughly consider and be confident that the sufferings will be truly eradicated.
(2) The factors that affect the living in sufficiency in daily life include:
1) It was found that the people in Tambon Lamsai, Amphur Wang Noi,Ayuddhaya Province apply the concept of Pacchavekkhavidhi for daily living by being content from what they have or earn no matter if they are good or bad.
2) It was found that the people in Tambon Lamsai, Amphur Wang Noi, Ayuddhaya Province apply the concept of Pacchavekkhavidhi for daily living by knowing their own physical threshold, and knowing what to do or how much to do that would bring success.
3) It was found that the people in Tambon Lamsai, Amphur Wang Noi, Ayuddhaya Province apply the concept of Pacchavekkhavidhi for daily living by knowing their own ability, not being too ambitious, but making a living carefully and with consciousness. |
